Our story…

Before New Coast Kitchen, we dedicated several years to learning how events and experiences can be transformed through fantastic food and drink. There was no fixed venue, just a passion for quality and a growing reputation for excellence.

During these culinary adventures, we decided to join forces with one of the most talented upcoming chefs that we had ever met, as we knew he would be able to take our passion for amazing food to the next level.

We extensively searched for the perfect location that would surround our passion for food and drink. In our search, we found our current venue that we knew would develop into a place that customers loved to visit.

Since then, New Coast Kitchen has gone from a humble startup, to one of Croyde’s most ambitious restaurants, and a favourite destination for many local visitors. We have received two AA Rosettes and listings in both the Good Food Guide and the MICHELIN Guide.

From the Head Chef

Martin Baylis

“I grew up in a world of food. English food from dad, Japanese food from mum, French and German food from where we lived at various times…

As I went through school, catering and home economics were by far my fortes, right through to college. I loved the way that food could transform any experience and put a smile on people’s faces. It was always clear what I was destined to pursue. Fresh out of college as a fully trained chef, I was thrown in to a high-pressure commis chef role. It was an invigorating deep dive into the real world of cooking and I have not looked back since.

In more recent years I have developed and enriched my passion for cooking thoughtful, innovative food and I am delighted to share that passion with the people of Croyde and the surrounding areas!”

Only the best ingredients

Amary Farm, an organic, family business from Ilfracombe that produces fresh vegetables and herbs, supply our seasonal vegetables and salads. We work very closely with them to stay close to nature, regularly updating our menu according to the best available ingredients. Celtic Fish, a top family business who work with many small fishing boats and shellfish producers, supply us with the freshest possible fish and shellfish.

Woolley Farm, owned and run by a group of local farmers, supply our meat. They rear beautiful grass-fed Devon Ruby Red beef cattle and incredible lambs. We have worked closely with their butcher on salt and dry ageing techniques to enhance flavour and tenderness. Having a close relationship with suppliers is so important as their job is just as hard as ours and we can only cook great food with the great produce they provide.
